Calcium Chloride Uses:
Desiccant
Granular anhydrous calcium chloride is often used as a desiccant to fill the drying tube. Mega-algae dried with calcium chloride (or seaweed ash) can be used in the production of soda ash. Some household dehumidifiers, such as DampRid, use calcium chloride to absorb moisture in the air. Calcium chloride can also be used as a drying agent or dehydrating agent for gases and organic liquids. Because calcium chloride is neutral, it can dry acidic or alkaline gases and organic liquids. It can also dry a small amount of gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, hydrogen chloride, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and so on. But it can not be used to dry ethanol and ammonia because ethanol and ammonia react with calcium chloride to form alcohols CaCl2.4C2H5OH and ammonia CaCl2.8NH3, respectively. Anhydrous calcium chloride can also be made into household products as an air hygroscopic agent, anhydrous calcium chloride as a water absorbent has been approved by the FDA for dressing first aid, its role is to ensure that the wound is dry.

Anhydrous calcium chloride is sprayed on the sand-stone pavement, and the moisture absorption of anhydrous calcium chloride is used to condense the moisture in the air when the air humidity is lower than the dew point to keep the road surface wet, so as to control the rise of dust on the road.

Deicing agent and cooling bath
Calcium chloride can reduce the freezing point of water. Spraying calcium chloride hydrate on roads can prevent freezing and deicing and snow melting, but saline water after ice and snow melting can destroy soil and vegetation along roads and deteriorate pavement concrete.

Calcium chloride solution can also be mixed with dry ice to prepare low temperature cooling bath. The rod like dry ice was added to the brine solution in batches until the ice appeared in the system. Different types and concentrations of salt solution can maintain a stable temperature of cooling bath will be different. Calcium chloride is commonly used as a salt raw material to obtain the required stable temperature by adjusting the concentration, not only because calcium chloride is cheap and easy to obtain, but also because the eutectic temperature of calcium chloride solution (i.e. the temperature at which the solution solidifies to form granular ice salt particles) is quite low, which can reach - 51.0 C, thus making the adjustable temperature. The range is from 0 C to -51 C. This method can be realized in a Dewar bottle which has the effect of heat preservation, or in a Dewar bottle which has a limited volume and needs more salt solution, a general plastic container can be used to hold the cooling bath. In this case, the temperature is also stable.
